Transitional and Ganassi Type Recorders
Here is a listing of our transitional style soprano and alto recorders for sale, with an occasional tenor. These instruments are designed with a wider bore than baroque style recorders and a more conical bore than most renaissance style recorders. Transitional recorders, more properly known as early baroque recorders, are most suitable for playing the early Italian and Dutch baroque repertoire between 1600 and 1650. Until recently, most professionals used Ganassi-type recorders for this repertoire, but after research by Eva Legene, Fred Morgan, Ture Bergstrom and others, several makers began producing instruments based on the Rosenborg recorders from Denmark, the early Haka recorder in Edinburgh, and the Kynsecker instruments. In addition, Bob Marvin published his design for a “Van Eyck Handfluyt˝ and many makers used his design as a starting point for their own models. Early baroque recorders have an expanded range compared to renaissance wide-bored instruments, but do not require any special fingerings for the upper range, unlike Ganassi models. What's more, their tone is generally not as strident as most Ganassis. Some players still prefer to use Ganassi instruments, particularly because of their extraordinary powerful low notes. All instruments, new and used, are sold with a 7-day trial period. We want you to be satisfied with your purchase.
